Follow these simple steps to provide accurate measurements and ensure your bespoke pieces are tailored to perfection. If in doubt, book a virtual consultation for expert guidance.
A. Chest: Wrap the tape rule under your arms and around the fullest part of your chest. Make sure the tape rule is balanced at the back when measuring this part. Ensure the tape is not tight and there’s a space of 3 inches from the chest
B. Stomach: use the same technique as above and wrap the tape measure around the biggest part of the stomach or at the navel. Leave 3 inches space between the tape and the stomach
C. Shoulder width: place the tape on the edge of one shoulder and measure across to the edge of the other shoulder. Ensure the tape runs along the uppermost part of the back.
D. Bicep: Measure the circumference of the biggest part of the upper arm, fold arm to get more accurate measurement. Ensure there is at least one inch space between the tape and arm while flexing.
E. Sleeve length: Place the tape at the edge of the shoulder and measure down to wrist. Ensure it stops at the end of the wrist
F. Length: Place the tape at the shoulder and measure down to the desired length. For suits, measure to below the waist line and stop at the thumb level (ensure arms are straight and by your side).
For agbada, measure down to below the knee and before the ankle, stop at desired length.
For Kaftans or Danshiki, measure down and stop above the knee area.
G. Neck: Measure the circumference of the neck by placing the tape rule at lowest part of the neck and measuring round the neck. Ensure it’s not tight but snug, just a little bit loose enough for one finger to pass through.
FOR TROUSERS
H. Lower Waist: Measure around your waistline, ensure it’s firm to get accurate measurements. Little or no space is required.
I. Hip (Seat): Place the tape around the fullest part of your buttocks area and measure around it. Leave two inches difference between tape and body.
J. Thigh: Place tape rule around the biggest part of your thigh, ensure tape is at the uppermost part of the thigh. Measure around the thigh and leave about 2 inches space between the tape and your thigh.
K. Trouser length: Place tape rule at the waistline and measure down to ankle.
FOR CAP
L. Head: Measure the circumference of your head by placing the tape at the middle part of the forehead and measuring round. Ensure the tape rule is straight and firm behind the ahead, and there’s no space between the tape and forehead.
